The journey of Tomáš Kačo is an amazing story of life dreams come true. He is a pianist, naturally gifted and immensely hardworking, but also a composer, singer and arranger.
He builds his solo recitals mostly on improvisation, with which he takes his unique style based on the fusion of classical music, jazz and traditional gypsy music into unrepeatable music areas.
Tomáš Kačo, the forth of twelve siblings, began to play piano at the age of five, however he learnt it completely intuitively and he had to understand the principles of play himself. His introduction to notes, scales and technique was at the age of twelve in an art school. Later he studied at Janáček conservatoire in Ostrava under the renowned professor Pavel Motloch whom Tomáš Kačo considers his personal mentor. Ivo Kahánek was among his crucial teachers at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. He spent his financial reward from a young composers’ competition on his American opportunity – the application for the Berklee School of Music in Boston. He graduated after two years of study in 2017 and he stayed in the United States.
Thanks to the open environment of one of the world’s best schools of contemporary music, he could begin to see his Romani descent as a remarkable distinction and asset, which was reflected in the programme of his sold-out recital in Carnegie Hall in February 2018. In the programme with the subtitle Romani Soul, he presented his own compositions and arrangements of compositions by Johann Sebastian Bach and Frédéric Chopin.
Tomáš Kačo has given many recitals in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, Israel, Washington and Los Angeles. On a long-term basis, he cooperated with Ida Kelarová with whom he released the album Romani Ballad in 2010. He cooperates with a number of Czech symphonic orchestras, for which he writes arrangements. His debut album My Home was released in 2018.
