The composer and cellist Rudolf Kubín was firmly anchored in Ostrava where he spent most of his lifetime.
However, he studied at Prague Conservatory (under Alois Hába) and after graduation, he played cello in the Prague Radio Orchestra for several years. In 1935 he returned to Ostrava where he was active as a composer, conductor and organizer, again mostly in Ostrava Radio where he worked as a music director.
His oeuvre is plentiful and rich in genres: it includes operas, operettas as well as symphonic, concertante and chamber compositions. In the postwar period, he also devoted himself to mass songs and cantatas in the spirit of socialistic realism that was preferred then. However, as Hába’s student, he focused on modern trends in music in his youth. He even wrote a few compositions in Hába’s micro interval system.
