Jan Freidlin was born in Russia and studied composition, piano and music theory at the Odessa Music College. From 1965 to 1971 he studied composition and theory with prof. A. Kogan at the Odessa State Music Academy as composer, musicologist and pianist.
He was the Head of the Music Theory department at the Stolyarsky Special Music College from 1974 until 1990 in Odessa (Ukraine) before he immigrated to Israel. Freidlin taught at Rubim Academy of Music in Tel-Aviv from 1990, and he currently teaches at the Levinsky College of Music in Tel-Aviv.
Freidlin is a very prolific author. He wrote orchestral works (4 symphonies, ballet „Guernica“, several concertos) as well as chambre musicand solo compositions, music for 7 feature movies and 26 theatrical shows.
Lots of his pieces are recorded (more than 20 CDs) in various countries. His music was performed on many festivals, concert halls as Carnegie Hall, Salle Pleyel, Moscow Conservatory Great Hall, Jerusalem Henry Crown Hall. Freidlin has composed music for many television shows, for 26 theater plays and for 7 feature films.
A prolific composer, many of his works have been performed in Russia, Israel, Ukraine, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Spain, Switzerland, Italy, Sweden, UK, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Holland, France, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Chile, Japan, Canada, Australia, USA and others.
The works of Jan Freidlin are published in many editions in the USA, Canada, Germany, France, Israel, Belgium, Russia and Ukraine and are recorded on many CDs. Many of his chamber music pieces are played all over the world (for instance – Violin Sonata in 3 Letters, „Mist over the Lake“, „Tenderness“, „Strophes of Sappho“) and are in the repertoire of the leading performers.
