Pavel Trojan studied in 1977–1982 at Prague Conservatoire under Ilja Hurník. In 1982–1989 he continued his studies at HAMU (Music Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts) in Prague in Jiří Pauer class. Since 1986 he has taught at Prague Conservatoire, first as a teacher of music theory subjects and since 1991 he has taught composition.
Since 1992 he was deputy director and since 2004 he has been director of Prague Conservatory. He is a member of juries of international composition competitions (among others Castelfidardo, Italy), he is the chairman of Antonín Dvořák International Composition Competition in Prague.
He is vice president of Czech Musical Comittee, a member of the Association of Czech Composers, Contemporary Music Association “Přítomnost“ (in 2000-03 and 2005-06 he was its chairman) and associations of composers “Collegia 2001“ and “Harmonie“.
Trojan’s compositions have been performed by leading musicians, such as České trio (Czech Trio), Kvarteto Apollon (Apollon Quartet), Ludmila Peterková, Jaroslav Svěcený, Jan Ostrý, Vojtěch Spurný, Modern String Quartet, Symfonický orchestr Českého rozhlasu (Symphonic Orchestra of Czech Radio) etc. at concerts both in the Czech Republic and abroad.
The compositions have been repeatedly published on many CDs and many of his works have been recorded and played by Czech Radio and Czech Television. He is, among other, the author of the Missa solemnis dedicated to Charles University in Prague or the opera “There were five of us“. Trojan also composes scenic and film music.
