Jiří Kabát was accepted to Prague Conservatoire in 2000. There he studied violin under D. Vlachová. In September 2004 he transferred to viola class under J. Rajniš. He graduated in 2007 with an orchestra. He also graduated from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow, L. Atlas class. He is a member of Vlachovo kvarteto Praha (Vlach Quartet Prague) and Barocco Sempre Giovane ensemble.
As a a soloist he played i.e. with Collegium českých filharmoniků (Collegium of Czech Philharmonic Orchestra Musicians), Pražská komorní filharmonie (Prague Chamber Philharmony), Pražští komorní sólisté (Prague Chamber Soloists), RSAMD Orchestra and others. He obtained scholarschips for the Int. Music Academy in Pilsen, Czech Republic and the Meadowmount School of Music in the United States.
He won prizes from international competitions, such as Mezinárodní houslová soutěž Mistra Josefa Muziky (the International Violin Competition of Master Josef Muzika), Beethovenův Hradec (Beethoven’s Hradec), both in the Czech Republic, Julio Cardona Competition in Portugal and Lionel Tertis and Watson Forbes Competitions in Great Britain.
He was awarded other prizes as well, i.e. the award of NČHF (Czech Music Endowment Funds), Govenor´s Prize, Tillett Trust Bursary. He performes for Czech Television, Television Noe and Czech Radio programmes and recordings. Composers A. Kathmeridu, M. Pasieczny, K. Smékal a G. Agostinho dedicated their compositions to him. Since September 2013 he has tought viola and specialized subjects at Conservatoire in Pardubice. He also works as an arranger and studies conducting under M. Němcová and M. Košler.
In 2012 he graduated from J. Gemrot composition class. His graduation composition Symphony № 1 “Te Deum“ was performed by Czech Radio Orchestra in Rudolfinum. He writes chamber music (3 string quartets, piano quintet, trio, Fantasia on Plainsong “Saint Wenceslas“ etc.), orchestral and symphonic music (orchestral overture, 3 concertos for a solo instrument with orchestra accompaniment, Fantasia for Violin and Orchestra etc.)
In 2011 he was awarded the first prize and an extraordinary award for the absolute winer of the second year of Antonín Dvořák International Competition for Composers. His works were performed i.e. at the Festival International Echternach, in a chamber cycle of FOK orchestra and Czech Philharmony, Östergötlands Musikdagar, Festival du Lubéron, Festival de Quatuors à Cordes en Pays de Fayence etc. He was awarded OSA prize for the most successful composer of classic music in 2013.
