Martin Kumžák

Martin Kumžák has a varied musical background: Jaroslav Ježek Conservatory, State Conservatory in Prague and Berklee College of Music.
He arranged and conducted musicals West Side Story and Hair. For the National theatre, he composed music for two plays directed by Jan Kačer – Peer Gynt and The Playboy of the Western World. He also arranged and conducted the project LUCIE & FOK and played at Dianna Reeves’ or Wayn Shorter’s concert.
At present, Martin Kumžák leads two ensembles (Pajky Pajk group and Moondance Orchestra that takes part in Czech television dance competition StarDance or When stars are dancing) and he devotes himself to composing contemporary classical music (i.e. Suite for violin, cello and piano, a ballet oratory Zodiac). In 2002, the Prague State Opera presented his opera debut Divine Comedy. In 2015, Martin Kumžák, in cooperation with the Prague Symphonic Orchestra FOK, presented his St. Wenceslas Oratorio for Symphony Orchestra, Baroque Orchestra, Soloists, Choir and Narrator for which he received the OSA award “The classic composition of the year“.
