Peter Duhan Elected Director General of Czech Radio

Peter Duhan is taking up the post after having been the Interim Director of Czech Radio since February 2010. The middle of 2011 has, thus, brought the complete Czech Radio Council with the remaining of its 9 members being elected by the Members of Parliament earlier this spring, and also with the appointment of the Director General. The other two candidates who passed the first round of the election procedure by Czech Radio Council were the current News and Current Affairs Stations Director, Hana Hikelová, and former Director of the private radio Cerna Hora, Petr Matoulek.

During his speech for the Czech Radio Council, Peter Duhan specified his conception of the changes in the management of the public service radio. Apart from Director General, the executive management should consist of three Deputies – Programme and Broadcasting Deputy, Administration and Finance Deputy, Strategic Development Deputy. All leading managers should have a clearly defined authority and a set of responsibilities. There should be nine division directors subordinate to the deputies.

Mgr. art. Peter Duhan was born on 11 November 1946 in Bratislava, Slovakia. Mr. Duhan graduated at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava, majored in Film and TV screening. After his short work experience at the then Czechoslovak Radio in Bratislava, he worked as the editor and entertainment programmes supervisor at the then Czechoslovak Television.

After 1989 Mr. Duhan became the Editor-in-Chief of the Verejnosť daily and between 1991 – 1992 he held the post of the Director General of the then Czechoslovak Radio. Straight afterwards he accepted the position of the Programme Director at the private company Kabel Plus and later he became the Director of the N-Press publishing house.

Since 2000 Peter Duhan cooperated with Czech Radio 6 – Radio Free Europe and in 2007 he became its Director. As of 2009 he was acting as the Czech Radio Programme Director, being named the Interim Director of Czech Radio in February 2010.
