Representatives of Afghanistan Logar Province at Czech Radio
At the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, a delegation from the state administration of the Afghanistan Logar Province came for a short-term attachment to the Czech institutions. Three representatives visited Czech Radio on the 19th November.
The visit is a part of a long-term strategy of support to the local government provided by the Czech Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) which has been based in the East Afghanistan province since 2008. The delegation consisted mainly of administrative officials of the provincial government and other institutions of the Logar Province. Representatives visiting Czech Radio included Abdul Wakil Ahmadazi, provincial Information and Culture Department Director, Abdul Shakoor, provincial state Radio Television Afghanistan (RTA) Director, and Abdul Mateen Jafar, provincial Department of Education Acting Director. All representatives were interested mainly in the principles of production of enlightenment and educational programmes and in advices and tips for compiling daily broadcasting schemes – informing citizens about practical daily matters (health prevention, public affairs, employment procedures, importance of education, etc.).
“The role of the radio in Afghanistan is very specific – in fact, it is the only nationwide medium with a great information impact. Therefore, all the radio stations in Logar are a strong tool perfectly suitable for the potential enlightenment and educational campaigns. The excursion to Czech Radio, a well-functioning public service medium, could be a very inspirational impulse helping our Afghan partners realise the potential of a radio as a medium spreading information and education,” said Terezie Taubelova, public affairs officer for the PRT Logar at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic.
The foreign visitors at Czech Radio learnt more about the Czech media landscape, about the work of Czech Radio journalists and foreign correspondents, about the difference between nationwide and regional broadcasting, and about the pros and cons between pre-recorded programmes and live broadcasting. The delegation had an opportunity to see the Czech Radio studios during live broadcasting as well. Abdul Shakoor thanked for the provided information at the end of the visit: “We find the information about the journalistic work and compiling daily news and their verification very helpful for us. News and current affairs at our organisation need further development and support.”
