Award for ´Memory of Nation´
During 27th and 29th May 2009, the 15th annual conference INFORUM 2009 on the professional information sources took place in Prague. It was organized by the University of Economics, Prague. During the event, there was also awarded the prize for the best information product of 2008. The winning project was the Czech Radio's ´Memory of Nation´.
The digital archive Memory of Nation is a joint project launched by Czech Radio, non-governmental non-profit organisation Post Bellum, and The Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes. Czech Radio Online has created the websites that currently offer thousands of photographs and texts, and mainly audio-recordings capturing the memories of the witnesses. Documents come primarily from the collection of the organisation Post Bellum.
Tens of institutions from the whole of Europe are continuously saving their collections on the digital archive for which the interface was created by Czech Radio. The portal makes the material accessible to wide public.
Czech Radio Online thus significantly supports one of the pillars of the public service of Czech Radio - education - and systematically develops the relationship of public towards the national history. The Czech Radio websites have been drawing the attention of public towards historical projects in a long-term already. For instance, already in 2005, there was a launch of websites focusing on the Second World War, the cycle ´Toulky českou minulostí´ (the Rambles through the Czech Past) also has its own website, and during the last year the visitors of Czech Radio website had the opportunity to enter Into the Depth of History via the homonymous multimedia application that was aimed at the search for weapons from Second World War at the bottom of the river Labe.
