Major Russian journalist visits Prague at the invitation of Czech Radio
Significant Russian journalist Konstantin von Eggert accepted the invitation of Czech Radio´s Director General Peter Duhan and came to Prague. During the visit, which began on the 20th February, he met journalists from Czech Radio and shared his work experience with them. In his lecture to students of Charles University and the general public he introduced the practical side of his journalistic profession.
Konstantin von Eggert is a Russian political analyst and commentator, consultant and journalist. His career is extensive – he worked as a diplomatic correspondent in Iraq, Afghanistan or in the Middle East. He became an Editor-in-chief in the Russian division of BBC in Moscow. He hosted the morning show “Utro BBC” and was among the first who covered live the most dramatic events in Russia, such as the resignation of the Russian president Boris Jelcin or the tragedy of 850 hostages held in the Moscow theatre Dubrovka by Chechen terrorists in 2002.
Konstantin von Eggert interviewed many significant personalities such as Mikhail Gorbachev, Lech Walesa, Madeleine Albright, Swedish king Karl XVI Gustaf or Javier Solana. Thanks to Mr. von Eggert´s visit to the Czech Republic, Minister of Foreign Affairs Karel Schwarzenberg has become his latest interviewee so far.
On Monday 20th February Konstantin von Eggert was the guest of the Czech Television´s current affairs programme Události, komentáře where he discussed the future of Russia in case Vladimir Putin is elected president. On Tuesday 21st February he spoke with Štěpánka Čechová from Czech Radio 1 – Radiozurnal and Libor Dvořák from Czech Radio 6 interviewed him about his work in Russian BBC and the development before presidential elections in today´s Russia.
On Wednesday 22nd February Charles University students and the general public had the opportunity to hear Mr. Eggert´s lecture called “The involvement/engagement vs. the activism of a journalist. The situation in Russia/EU/Czech Republic”. The lecture took place in Hollar, the building of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University in Prague.
