The Winners of Young Musicians‘ Competition Concertino Praga 2014 Are Known
The winners of the 48th annual international radio competition for young musicians, Concertino Praga, are known. This year the best recordings of young musicians were selected by the jury in the categories of bassoon, flute, trumpet, oboe and clarinet. The overall winner is a fifteen-year-old clarinet player, Matouš Kopáček.
Last weekend the international jury, led by Swiss oboe player Roland Perrenoud, anonymously judged twenty-two recordings in Czech Radio’s studio. The winners are the following: In the bassoon category it is Luka Mitev from Slovenia, in the flute category Maria Filippova from Russia – who also won the prize of the European Union of Music Competitions for Youth (EMCY) –, and in the trumpet category Vilém Hofbauer from the Czech Republic. The first prize in the oboe category was not awarded.
The prize winners of the individual categories will be performing at celebratory concerts in Rudolfinum on June 22 and within the South Bohemian Festival tour, which starts at the castle in Český Krumlov on June 23 and finishes in Jindřichův Hradec on June 27.
The winner of the clarinet category, Matouš Kopáček from the elementary school of art in Lovosice, who became the overall winner of the competition, will record a profile CD that will be released by Czech Radio.
In the past forty-seven years the international young musicians’ competition Concertino Praga has gained a unique position comparable to the interpretation competition of the Prague Spring festival. Concertino Praga is also a long-time member of the European Union of Music Competitions for Youth (EMCY).
In this radio interpretation competition the participants from many countries of the world send the recordings, showing their interpretation skills, anonymously through national radio stations from all over the world. It is only after the final decision of the international juries that the public learns about the winners’ names. Therefore, in comparison with other public competitions, maximum impartiality is ensured.
